Seeking Community Partners

The RISE & SHINE program is the Life Skills and Vocational based program for students in the special education program at Carver Middle High School.

We are currently seeking local businesses who may be willing to offer volunteer opportunities for our students. These experiences are an important part of helping our students build job skills, confidence, communication abilities, and a sense of community involvement.

Our students are eager to learn and contribute in meaningful ways. Volunteer tasks can be simple and flexible based on your business needs, such as:

  • Organizing or stocking items
  • Light cleaning or maintenance tasks
  • Assisting with basic office or clerical work
  • Supporting staff with routine duties

Students are always supervised and supported by trained staff to ensure a positive experience for both the business and the student.

Partnering with our program not only helps students gain valuable real-world experience, but also allows your business to make a meaningful impact in the community by promoting inclusion and opportunity.

Anyone interested in offering volunteer opportunities or wishing to find out more information should email the special education teacher, Nicole O’Neil, at oneiln@carver.org.

Student Government Day

Congratulations to Junior, Ceilidh MacKechnie who was selected by her peers to attend Student Government Day at the State House on Friday. April 10 as the representative for Carver.

In last Tuesday’s Pathways presentation to 7th grade, the seats in the auditorium weren’t just filled with students; they were filled with future innovators, athletes, scientists, and creators. Grade 7 grade students dove headfirst into some incredible new experiences as CMHS launched a series of upcoming WIN Pathway Exploratories last week that run from April 1st through April 16th.

Meeting the Trailblazers
Our students didn’t just hear about these opportunities; they heard from the experts who live and breathe these fields every day. A huge thank you to our dynamic presenting team: Mr. Ewell, Ms. Waitner, Mr. Santos, Mr. Portelance, and Ms. Young

From the sizzle of the kitchen to the logic of high-level computer science and the wonders of the lab and workshop, these educators shared how Pathways can turn a standard school day into a hands-on adventure.

Why Choose a Pathway?
While joining a Pathway is optional, the benefits are undeniable. These aren’t just classes—they are gateways. Our Pathways are designed to be:

Hands-on & Engaging:
Move beyond the textbook and into real-world projects.
Connected:
See exactly how what you learn at CMHS applies to the world outside our walls.
Future-Ready:
Whether heading to a four-year college or launching straight into a rewarding career, these programs provide the stepping stones our students need to succeed.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going!
Parents, we need your help to keep this momentum moving! We encourage you to sit down with your child this week and ask: “Which Pathway sparked your interest?” Whether they are drawn to the arts, sciences, or technology, talking through these choices helps them take ownership of their educational journey.

Learn more:

  • Check out this Carver Pathways Intro video
  • Explore the details: Visit the Carver Pathways Website to learn about our different programs.
  • Get a Front-Row Seat: Follow @cmhs_pathways on Instagram to see photos and videos of our students in action!

The journey toward a dream career starts right here at CMHS. We can’t wait to see which path our 7th graders choose to explore!

Massachusetts State Officials visit Carver Middle High School
The Healey-Driscoll Administration along with Secretary of Education Patrick Tutwiler visited Carver Middle High School on Wednesday, April 3, where they visited Carver Innovation Pathways classrooms and announced the awarding of new Innovation Career Pathway designations to 36 high schools, of which 22 are new to the program.     “I was thrilled to see first-hand how students are exploring different career paths in high-demand industries like manufacturing at Carver Middle High School today. We’re excited that students here and at four other schools will have the opportunity to explore our Clean Energy Pathway next school year,” said Governor Maura Healey. “We want to ensure that what students learn in school helps them get where they want to go, while also meeting our workforce needs. That’s why we are continuing investments in transformational programs like Innovation Career Pathways with our FY25 budget.”

Harlem Wizards return to Carver!

Thank you to everyone who made the Harlem Wizards event such a great success and fundraiser for the Carver Elementary and Middle High Parent Teacher Organizations who support our students, staff and schools!

Students in the State House

Job well done to Student Ambassadors, Sofie De Coste and Davany Thongchun who were the student body elected representatives to the Massachusetts Student Government Day.  The program provides educators and students from Massachusetts’s public and private high schools with many opportunities to learn first hand about state government and allows students to voice their positions on important current issues through prepared debates and participate in the legislative process through simulated committee hearings and House and Senate formal sessions. All students will heard from legislative leaders and had the opportunity to give testimony on two current bills before the General Court.
