Mock Trial Begins

The 2016 Massachusetts Mock Trial Competition is under way, and Carver students, let by Ms. Perkins are preparing to present either side of the case.  This year challenges the team with a criminal murder case involving a war veteran who may or may not have suffered from PTSD which did or didn’t activate a reflexive response to fireworks going off around him; the end result was that his high school nemesis was shot multiple times and killed.  The trial dates and final team have not yet been set, but stay tuned.

Music Boosters Website Launched

The Carver Music Boosters, a volunteer organization of parents, teachers, and community music-lovers who work to enhance music education in Carver public schools, has launched a new website at http://carvermusic.org/.

The website serves several simultaneous purposes including celebrating the many musical accomplishments of Carver students and communicating to families about upcoming music events in Carver and opportunities for Carver students. The website also acts as a central organizing point for people who wish to support music in Carver.

There are many ways that parents and students can support music in Caver. On the website, there is an opportunity to sign up for Carver Music Boosters emails as well as to learn how to designate Carver Music Boosters as your Amazon Smiles charity of choice.

Carver Music Boosters meet monthly at the Carver Middle High School Lower Library. The next meeting is Monday, November 7 at 7 pm and is open to all.

James Otis Scholars

CMHS seniors Natalie Mosher,  Sabrina Pangione, Ryan Semple, Connor Skinner, and Madison Staples, were recently nominated as James Otis Scholars and participated in the ninth annual Lecture Series at the Massachusetts State House in Boston on September 19th.

The Massachusetts chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates holds the annual event to commemorate Constitution Day, the signing of the US Constitution on September 17.

Students sat in the Chamber of the House of Representative in the State House and heard a panel of law experts deliver speeches and answer questions during the program– Religion and the Law.

The students enjoyed the field trip, learned insightful information about the separation of church and state and are now recognized as “James Otis Scholars.”
