What is the GSA?
The Carver Middle High School Genders & Sexualities Alliance (GSA) is a club open to all students that promotes tolerance and acceptance of all people within our school community. We specifically work to achieve inclusivity for individuals who identify as members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community. Our club has two chapters: a middle school club for grades 6-8, and a high school club for grades 9-12.
What does the GSA do within the school community?
As a club, we celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility, National Day of Silence, Pride Month, LGBTQ+ History Month, and National Coming Out Day, as well as everyday achievements and moments of importance to our students.
What are some achievements the GSA has accomplished?
In the 2022-2023 school year, we were the recipients of the “It Gets Better” Grant and received $10,000 to improve our school environment for LGBTQ+ students. We used it to hire a guest speaker for staff, paint two different murals in the school, host multiple events for our students, buy positive posters for classrooms, bring our students on a field trip, make new signs for all of the bathrooms in the school, add more inclusive books to our school library, and more.
