MUSIC MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of the Elementary Music Education Program is to encourage and develop the high standards of music teaching, through challenging, fun-loving activities, adhering to the state standards in the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks. As stated in the Music Educators National Conference (MENC) Preamble: “Music allows us to celebrate and preserve our cultural heritages and also to explore the realms of imagination and creation resulting in new knowledge”.
General Music Education class meets weekly for students in grades Pre-K through 5. In addition, there are two different music ensembles in which students in grades 4 and 5 can participate, Band and Chorus. These ensembles are available to students outside of the regular school day.
CARVER ELEMENTARY AFTER SCHOOL INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM
The Carver Elementary School offers 2 instrumental programs: Beginning Band & Advanced Band.
The Beginning Band is made up of students in their first year of instruction. The Advanced Band is made up of students who already play their instrument at proficiency level. Students put on a performance at the end of the year.
Chorus meets before school on Tuesday mornings from 7:30 – 8:15 am. Students in grades 4 and 5 learn how to read simple choral music parts, are taught choral rehearsal techniques, and experience the evolution that takes place in performance ensembles. In addition to the Chorus weekly rehearsal, an accompaniment group featuring Orff Instrument instruction (xylophones, etc.) meets for an additional morning rehearsal, in preparation for the Chorus concerts. Please check webpage for weekly updates.
