NEWS & UPDATES

FREE Carver Cardiac Screening

May 9, 2025
from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. or
May 10, 2025
from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Carver Middle High School – Middle School Gymnasium

Carver Middle High School and Hanson Fire Department, in partnership with Carver EMS and the organization Who We Play For, is offering freecardiac screenings to the youth in our community an important health initiative available to all Carver Middle High School students and anyone ages 10-22.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death among young athletes, often due to undiagnosed heart conditions. These screenings are designed to detect potential heart issues early, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students.

Why Participate?

  • Early Detection: An electrocardiogram (ECG) can identify up to 95% of conditions that may lead to SCA, whereas standard physical exams detect only about 1%.
  • Peace of Mind: Knowing your child’s heart health can provide reassurance for families and allow students to engage confidently in physical activities.
  • What SCA looks like: We encourage you to watch this short video.

Registration:
To register your child for the free screening, please visit the website at https://www.whoweplayfor.org/massachusetts-plymouth. We strongly encourage all parents to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.  If you have questions or concerns please reach out to Charley Barends, Hanson Fire Deputy Fire Chief at Cbarends@Hanson-Ma.gov

Students districtwide have been engaged in deeper learning opportunities including extraordinary STEM opportunities including the Title One Game Night, MassBioEd Biotechnology presentations, Newton’s Science Carnival, Dissection lessons, and so much more!  Thank you to our educators and community partners for bringing  all of these great learning experiences to our students!

Thank you to all the staff members, volunteers, student performers and community members who helped to make our annual Family Fun Night a great success!  Here are just a few highlights!

Students in the Elementary School had the opportunity to connect with Middle High School students and members of the community prior to vacation as they visited classrooms and read to students.

Congratulations to these Winter Athletes for their extraordinary post season achievements and to Crusader Athletes of the Week: William Beliveau and Jadyn Sotomayor.

Students in Mr. Tresca’s Justice in Society Class were visited by  Deputies Desroches, Luongo, and Manter of the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department who performed a K9 demo and talked about their career field, discuss law enforcement safety and probable cause.  Thank you to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s department for their time and demonstration!

Elementary students participated in a MCAS Parade to cheer on the students getting ready to begin their exams!  The testing season continues throughout the spring — keep up the great work!!

Welcome home to the student world travelers who returned from their trip to Spain and Portugal.  Thank you to advisors Mrs. Calvo and Mrs. Showan for all the planning and preparations and staff members Christina McKenna, Karen Booth, Michelle Littleton, Nate Miller, and Julia Whalen for chaperoning this extraordinary opportunity!

Carver Middle High School recently hosted an exciting collaboration between our Digital Photography and Culinary students, guided by professional photographer Kristin Griffin. Students worked in small teams to plan, prepare, and style dishes—both real and faux—while learning essential food photography techniques.

Kristin’s insightful demo helped them capture the most appealing looks, and they enhanced their skills in editing with Adobe Lightroom. This event showcased the creativity and talent of our students as they were introduced to the fascinating world of commercial photography and food styling! Many thanks to our teachers Chef Portelance and Mrs. Genovese and to Mrs. Griffin for their expertise and leadership!
