James Otis Scholars
CMHS seniors Conor Blomquist, Jonah Puskar, Arianna Rozen, Carley Ryan, and Gabrielle Tracey were selected by the History Department and Principal Knief to participate in the eighth annual James Otis Lecture Series at the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
This series is presented every September by the Massachusetts chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates to help commemorate Constitution Day, the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, and to help honor the memory of the great people who created our government.
Students sat in the Chamber of the House of Representative in the State House and heard a panel of law experts deliver speeches and answer questions during the program– How Worcester County Saved the Jury System (and why it matters).
The students enjoyed the field trip, learned insightful information about the jury system and are now recognized as “James Otis Scholars.”

First Harvest
This summer, Carley Ryan, student coordinator and project originator of Carver’s Living Learning Laboratory, harvested the first crop of veggies and provided the Council on Aging fresh organically grown produce for their seniors’ lunches. Student volunteers planted a diverse late spring crop that includes varieties of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, squashes and herbs. Seedlings were donated by Cohenno’s Greenhouse and local carver residents. The Living Learning Laboratory was created to educate on sustainability; supplement food at the pantries, school cafeteria and culinary class, and create connections with the community. The “hoop house” construction materials were funded by A.D. Makepeace’s Neighborhood grant.

Middle High School Supply List
Unlike the Elementary school, the students at the Middle High School are not given supply lists before the start of each school year. The various schedules make it difficult to mainstream a supply list – however each teacher will be informing your students of the materials needed for their class at the start of the school year. Students can always be prepared by having the following items:
3 ring binders, White Lined Filler Paper, Pencils, Pens, Highlighers, Backpacks, etc.
Thank you! We look forward to seeing all of our students Sept. 1!
