Reminders from Plymouth County Mosquito Control

Please see the reminders below for all families from the Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project.

Protect yourself and your loved ones from mosquito borne diseases.
Do all you can to prevent the bite!

  1. Check for and get rid of standing water. “Tip and Toss” water from buckets, tarps, toys. Rinse birdbaths at least twice a week.  Note, these areas breed the mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus.
  2. Avoid dusk to dawn outdoor activities, especially in years at high risk of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). Keep this in mind when traveling to other areas, as not all areas are at the same risk level.  Some are at higher risk than where you live.
  3. Use EPA approved repellants. Look for EPA on the label.
  4. Wear light-colored long sleeves and pants.
  5.  Keep screens in good condition. Patch holes in screens.
  6. Dragonflies, bats and spiders are some of nature’s mosquito
predators (but they do not eat enough to keep us safe.)
  7. Add circulators to water features. Moving water disrupts and kills the eggs and larvae.
  8. Add fans for your outdoor entertainment areas. Oscillating fans work best for this.
  9. Have a low wet area of concern?
Contact the Plymouth County Mosquito Control Project at 781 585 5450 or visit plymouthmosquito.org for more information. They can check for and treat mosquito larvae.
