Yik Yak App
Students have dramatically increased their use of a phone app called Yik Yak. This app allows users make anonymous posts which can be viewed by anyone else with Yik Yak who is within approximately 2 miles. It appears that almost all of the posts made on Yik Yak in this area have been made by middle and high school-age students. While Yik Yak is not accessible in our building due to the company’s own policy of disabling the app at schools, students are reading posts and talking about them when they arrive at school. The comments have been almost universally cruel and petty. They have had a negative impact on the lives of students in and out of school.
Teachers, counselors, and administrators are helping individuals that have been affected by these posts. In the meantime, Carver community members are encouraged to eliminate access to this app. The icon for the app is displayed below. It can be downloaded to any android or iPhone. Please encourage any young person you know to delete the app from his or her phone.

To all students, parents and staff who participated , helped and/or donated this past Halloween week, Thank You!!
Between Costumes for a Cure (Halloween Day) and Penny Wars (October 27-31) Carver Middle High School was able to raise $775.69 to donate to Make a Wish America.
Special thanks and recognition to two groups who really helped out a lot with making this fundraiser a success. First to National Honor Society and their advisor Mr. Mallon and secondly to Middle School Student Government and their advisors, Mr. Wechter and Mr. Sullivan.

UPDATE: 2014 Turkey Trot
The 2014 Turkey Trot was a huge success. We collected more food items than we have since 2008! This year we had more runners than ever and had some outstanding performances by our students. The high school volunteers were great and we even had a guest appearance from our chief turkey, Mrs. Kathy Moore – Mrs. Moore inspired this event 21 years ago! Due to the team effort of all our staff this was the best trot ever. Many thanks for your support!
Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Winslow
