Town of Carver at Moderate Risk for West Nile

We were notified this morning that a few mosquitoes in Carver have tested positive for the West Nile virus.  As a result, the Board of Health and the School Department have placed a ban on all outdoor activities or events in Carver between dusk and dawn effective immediately.

Please note the information below and the flyer from the Board of Health in Carver.  School events that are scheduled to be indoors are not cancelled – only events planned to be primarily outdoors after dusk in Carver.  Groups or teams that have an evening event or game in another town do not need to be rescheduled.  Any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Board

From the Carver, MA Board of Health.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THERE IS A BAN IN EFFECT FOR ALL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES BETWEEN DUSK AND DAWN.

Mosquitoes may continue to be active well into the fall and risk for mosquito-borne illness will continue until the first hard frost in your area. Hard frosts occur when temperatures fall below 28 degrees for several hours.

Preschool Role Models

The Carver Public Schools’ Preschool Program, located at the Carver Elementary School, is currently scheduling appointments for screenings for role model slots for the 2018-2019 school year.  Screenings will be held by appointment only on Friday, September 7, 2018.

A screening is required for acceptance into the program. Children considered are those who do not currently receive special education services and are not in need of special education services. Applicants are expected to demonstrate age appropriate skills (within 6 months) in the areas of speech and language, cognitive/school readiness, fine and gross motor development, and social/emotional and behavioral development. In addition, a child must be at least 3 years of age by September 1, 2018 and toilet trained.  They must also be a resident of Carver and families must provide transportation to and from the program.  Those children found eligible will be entered into a lottery.  Appropriate role model students who are not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list.  Please note that slots are limited.

This program for role model students is a fee based program.  We offer several sessions and the fee for each half day session is $12.00. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact the Carver Elementary School Office at (508) 866-6210.
