Citizenship Day, Boston
This past Saturday, on 9/16-Citizenship Day–nine juniors, accompanied by history teacher Mr. Tresca traveled to Boston and helped a nonprofit organization (Project Citizenship) assist applicants through the paperwork process towards becoming sworn in as citizens in a couple of months.
The students responsibilities included:
- directing the prospective citizens from the subway to the building
- taking photos for their identification paperwork
- bringing applicants from a waiting room into the gymnasium to speak to an attorney to go over their paperwork
- spending time with toddlers in the “children room” so their parents could move through the process steps with more ease.
Mr. Tresca reports, “Our kids were fantastic, so helpful and got so many compliments from both other volunteers and the immigrants they helped!”
The students included:
- Ethan Allegrini
- Brooke Foster
- Jess Gallagher
