Patriots Coach of the Week – Ben Shuffain

We are incredibly proud to announce that Patriots’ Hall of Famer, Andre Tippett came to Carver Middle High School on October 10, 2023 to present the Carver Middle High School Football Program with a $1,000 donation on behalf of the Kraft family and New England Charitable Foundation in honor of Head Coach, Benjamin Shuffain who was chosen as the Patriots High School Coach of the week. The visit and presentation will be featured on the “Patriots All Access” television show which airs on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. on WBZ-TV in Boston and also available immediately after on Patriots.com.

About Coach Shuffain

Last season, the Crusaders finished their 2022 season at 3-8 and now are sitting at 5-0 after Head Coach Ben Shuffain led Carver to their biggest win in 20-plus years since its EMass Division 4 Super Bowl appearance against Fairhaven in 2000. In a stunning overtime thriller on Friday, October 6th, marked the first time that Carver upset Cohasset to end a 17-year losing streak and remain undefeated on the season. Additionally, the win plots Carver for its first winning season since 2015, when it finished 6-5. The Crusaders offense has averaged 47.2 points per game through the first five weeks of the season, with the high-mark of 55 points set against McCann Technical School on September 23rd, and arguably the most impressive showing of 42 in its biggest test against Cohasset on Friday.

Head Coach Ben Shuffain took over the program last year after moving his family from Mansfield to Carver and has instantly changed the culture of our program in a positive way. “In such a short period of time, Coach Shuffain has made such a profound impact on our student-athletes and our community. He is a tremendous role model and would not want any other coach leading our program”, says athletic director Christopher Carbone. Coach Shuffain has turned Carver football into a family; a family that is there for one another 24/7, 365 days a year. The student-athletes and coaches alike are always improving and have bought in. His ability to effect a positive turnaround for our football program does not go unnoticed.

Ben Shuffain adds, “this team just has it, they have the tenacity, and fought through adversity and we hadn’t seen that in the first four weeks, but we saw it in this one,” said Shuffain. “I think the sky’s the limit for this team. I think (this win) is huge for this program, this town, we ‘ve had a lot of struggles lately with some loss, and this team has come together the last few weeks.”

We are incredibly proud of our teams’ accomplishments and look forward to building on the success we have had thus far.
